Sneak Peak at the set for “Other Desert Cities”

We can draw inspiration for our home decor from many sources. Many of our favorite TV shows feature amazing design and decor on their sets. I mean, we all wanted Monica’s apartment on Friends! I think its fun to look at theatre for ideas as well. Last week I shared a quick blurb about “Other Desert Cities” at Muskegon Civic Theatre for West Michigan Wednesday. I am having such a great time working on this show and feel so lucky to get to play each night on a beautiful set. I love the design elements that have been incorporated into our set. It is so fun to see a cohesive decor look come together for the show. It really feels like a home! Today I wanted to share a sneak peak and a closer look at our set! First, here is a wide shot. the set for "other desert cities" So pretty! Obviously, I want those beige chairs in my living room!! The show takes place almost entirely on Christmas Eve. I love the sweet little Christmas tree in the corner and the subtle holiday decor elements. the set for "other desert cities" the set for "other desert cities" http://startickets.com/search?q=Other+desert+cities&Itemid=124 I love the bar and I adore the beautiful picture window! It is so fun to see the colors change out the window through the show as time passes from morning to evening. the set for "other desert cities" Every bar needs drinks. I love this wine rack (the bottles are all empty, but you can’t tell from the audience!) and other liquor bottles add nice visual interest. the set for "other desert cities" the set for "other desert cities" Here is a glance to each side facing the bar. It really feels like you’re standing in a room! I love these swivel stools… so comfy!! the set for "other desert cities" the set for "other desert cities" My favorite feature of the set is the beautiful fireplace. It looks so gorgeous all lit up. Honestly, the fireplace is worth the ticket price alone! 😉 the set for "other desert cities" the set for "other desert cities" A great takeaway from this set is how monochromatic colors can work really well in letting unique architecture stand out. The beige colors in the wall and furniture really let the window and fireplace be the star! “Other Desert Cities” runs this weekend and next in at the Beardsley Theatre in Muskegon. Feburary 27, 28, March 1, 5, 6, 7. Buy your tickets here! I would love to see you there!

West Michigan Wednesday: “South Pacific” at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre

One of the things I love most about my home is the location! I love living in West Michigan and enjoy many activities around town. I wanted to create a series that explores some of the great things that this area has to offer.

West Michigan Wednesday

This weekend “South Pacific” opens at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre! As always, here is the blurb from the website: “Set in World War II, an unconventional love story that deals with issues of racial prejudices, war, and love; told in a way that only Rodgers and Hammerstein can do. Show stopping songs that will have you humming along.”

The show runs from February 27 – March 22, 2015. Get your tickets here!

Lovely and Lavender

I’m back today with another quick floral post. You guys know I love sharing these little pops of color with you. We have had a brutal week with low temperatures here in West Michigan and this week is supposed to be another cold one.  This past weekend “Other Desert Cities” opened at Muskegon Civic Theatre and I received this pretty arrangement from one of the gals in the show.

love these pretty, girly colors!

I have been really drawn to lavender lately and I think this color looks so pretty with my teal entryway table. It has me itching to paint my living room walls a dusty gray with a lavender undertone. If only it would warm up enough for me to crack a window and get painting!!

Think Spring! For more blooms, check out my previous posts here!

Pinterest Find: Banana Mug Cake

This week has been insane! Between my broken sewer line and tech week for “Other Desert Cities” I have barely had any free time.

Today I wanted to keep things simple and share a recipe that I’ve been dying to try! Doesn’t this Banana Mug Cake look amazing?!

Ok… This is so embarrassing, but I don’t know how I missed the memo on mug cakes. I was at a bridal shower recently and the bride-to-be received a cook book full of lovely mini cakes and my head just about exploded! This is totally my style: single serving, quick, pretty, and seemingly simple to make.

West Michigan Wednesday

“Other Desert Cities” is opening at Muskegon Civic Theatre this weekend. I am so thankful to be a part of this production and I’m so excited to have people come and see our hard work. Here is the blurb:

“A riveting new play by the creator of TV’s hit drama “Brothers & Sisters” and writer on “West Wing.” Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.”

I am playing Brooke and it has been so much fun to work with everyone on this show! We open this Friday in the Beardsley Theatre and run February 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, March 1, 5, 6, 7. I  hope to see you all there!
