HeartHavenHolidays: Holiday Gift Guide For Her

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I was able to spend the afternoon with my mom, which was so wonderful. As you know, this is the first Thanksgiving since my divorce and the first without my Dad. This year I was reminded how blessed I truly am, even in the face of terrible loss and surviving the most difficult year of my life. I think hard times can remind us of the things we do have and to cherish the wonderful people around us every day. I am so thankful for my amazing family, my family of friends, my sweet little home, and for my ever-growing faith in God. I hope that each of you found some time to spend with your loved ones and be thankful for the blessings that are present in your life.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I’m ready to look toward Christmas! Today I rounded up a few of my favorite items that I think would be great gifts for the special gals in your life, or perhaps will help you come up with your Christmas wish list.

Holiday gift guide for her

I have mentioned before that I am a big fan of Contigo tranquil water bottles. I love that the entire top can come off for easy cleaning. I have actually even used mine for tea! The colors are beautiful and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on my teal bottle. This would be a great gift for a yoga buddy or a fitness conscious gal pal.

This fall I have been obsessed with scarves. With temperatures dropping so early, I’ve been bundling up in the coziest scarves I can find. My latest favorites are the oversized blanket scarves I picked up at Target. I have three of them. (Oops) my favorite is this beautiful multi colored blanket scarf that I’ve been seeing all over Instagram and Pinterest. It’s a great dupe for the higher price point  Zara scarf that was really popular.

Do any of you watch Scandal? If you don’t, you should. My fellow gladiators may recognize this next pick as Olivia Pope’s beautiful red wine glass. I found this beauty at Crate and Barrel and if you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m obsessed!! This would be a great gift for any fan of the show or a wine lover!

I adore Rifle Paper Company. If you remember the gallery hall in my first house, you’ll know that I own several of the city prints. I have a few of the larger prints and I have purchased two of the travel calendars over the years which I’ve framed as art. I get a ton of compliments on these. They are simply stunning!

I’m not sure about you guys, but I’m cold all the time. I love fuzzy socks and frankly, I’ve never met anyone who isn’t a fan. I love this cozy three pack from Target.

My favorite scent for this time of year is “Winter” from Bath and Body Works. They have a ton of great seasonal candles and air fresheners. The three wick candles are often on sale and they are a great price point for gifts! There is just something about this specific candle that makes me think of being cuddled up in a cozy blanket by the fire with a cup of cocoa. Yup, it’s just like that.

J Crew has my heart when it comes to clothing. If you’re looking for something soft, versatile and classic, look no further than the merino wool Tippi sweater. I’m too embarrassed to tell you how many of these I own.  I love that these sweaters are 3/4 sleeve. I wear mine from early fall through spring. They come in a ton of colors, so it’s easy to find one to fit everyone’s needs/style.

I own own a decent amount of perfumes. I went a little nuts for them a while back. But there are a few that I reach for constantly. During the fall and winter, my favorite scent is Golden Delicious by DKNY. I think it’s great for a daytime fragrance but works well for nights out too. The scent it not too overpowering and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on mine. The price point isn’t terrible for a fragrance. Plus, the bottle is gorgeous and looks so pretty sitting on a vanity or nightstand.

Hopefully this helpes get some wheels turning for the holiday season. What are some of the items you are excited to give or receive?

Just a reminder: The winner of my TOMS for Target Tote Bag Giveaway will be announced on my Facebook Page today!! Thank you to everyone who entered!

West Michigan Wednesday: Shop Local This Weekend

One of the things I love most about my home is the location! I love living in West Michigan and enjoy many activities around town. I wanted to create a series that explores some of the great things that this area has to offer.

West Michigan Wednesday

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and for those of us who work in retail we know that Black Thursday Friday is just around the corner. Many big box stores will be showing off their best deals of the season. This weekend, though, I encourage you to shop locally and support your hometown business owners. This week for West Michigan Wednesday, I wanted to share four towns along the lakeshore that you can visit to do a little holiday damage  on Shop Local Saturday.

Saugatuck has several fantastic dining and shopping options in their downtown area. I personally love all of the art galleries!

Downtown Holland is so stinking cute. There are a ton of shops and restaurants to visit including The Seasoned Home which I shared with you a few week ago.

In Grand Haven you can visit a few sweet little boutiques, pick up lunch or stop by a micro brewery to kill time. I love the burgers at The Pavilion.

This weekend in Muskegon, you could shop around downtown, pick up lunch at one of the fantastic restaurants like Curry Kitchen, catch a show at Muskegon Civic Theatre, and grab a drink afterwards at a local brewery!

How will you be supporting local business this weekend?

Just a reminder: Make sure to enter my giveaway for a chance to win this awesome tote bag from the TOMS for Target collection!!

Inexpensive Grocery Store Blooms

The weather here in West Michigan has been quite temperamental. Most kids in the area have had two snow days already and if you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve already had to break out the snow blower for the season.

And so it starts… I wish I had a smaller driveway. #michiganwinter #snow

However, this weekend we had a ton of rain and temps back up in the 50s.  So weird!

Anyway, with all of this gloomy weather I wanted to add some color back into my house. While I was at the grocery store on one of our snowy days last week, I picked up some pretty blooms to cheer things up.

Grocery store blooms are an inexpensive and easy  way to breathe live into your home during these chilly months. I think the key is just to find healthy looking flowers in colors that you love. When I get home, I take everything apart, trim them up, and then put an arrangement together. This original bouquet had some fall colored leaves and straw pieces mixed in so I pulled them out to let the pretty blooms shine.

I love the contrast of the red and pink. Its a simple and pretty arrangement to brighten up my home just a little bit on these gloomy days.

Black Friday Giveaway: TOMS for Target Reusable Tote Bag

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I love the TOMS for Target collection that launched this week. While I was picking up some things for myself, I also grabbed an item for one of YOU! I had so much fun with my last giveaway that I knew I wanted to do something fun around the holidays. I figure everyone likes getting a deal on Black Friday and nothing beats FREEEEEEE!

TOMS for Target Giveaway

So, today I’m giving away one of the Reusable Tote Bags in the flag design! It is a pretty cream color with the blue and white flag.  I love the classic look with the TOMS logo. The interior has a really cool map design which adds a fun peak-a-boo of visual interest. There is also a small drawstring pouch on the inside so the tote can fold up to be carried in a purse/diaper bag/backpack. I don’t know about you guys, but I love using a tote bag when I travel and I always use a tote to pack for beach trips or for Daisy’s overnight bag.  Also, did you know that if you shop with a reusable bag at Target they take off 5 cents for each bag? Pretty great! #workfacts

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I just wanted to do something small to say “Thank You” to all of you for reading/supporting my blog and to give back a little bit. With the purchase of this tote bag, a (One for One) donation was made to Feeding America and will supply one week of meals to someone in need.  I am so excited about this Giveaway and I can’t wait for one of you to get this super adorable tote bag!

Click the GIVEAWAY tab on the HEARTHAVENHOME Facebook Page:

You can get entries by following Heart Haven Home on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, or by Subscribing to my blog. The giveaway ends at Midnight on 11/28 and I’ll be announcing the winner sometime that day on the HeartHavenHome Facebook Page. It will probably after I get out of work, because lets be real: I work at Target and it’s Black Friday. HaHa!

West Michigan Wednesday: “A Christmas Story” at Muskegon Civic Theatre

One of the things I love most about my home is the location! I love living in West Michigan and enjoy many activities around town. I wanted to create a series that explores some of the great things that this area has to offer.

West Michigan Wednesday

The weather has been terrible so far this week in West Michigan, but it looks like things are supposed to clear up just in time for “A Christmas Story” to open at Muskegon Civic Theatre! Take advantage of clear/safe roads and get out of the house with the whole family. I really enjoy seeing holiday shows this time of year. It really gets me in the Christmas spirit and I love to support my friends and local artists/actors/designers.

Here is the blurb from their website: “Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!” All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and morays.”

Be sure to check it this holiday classic at the Beardsley Theatre running November 21-23, 28-30, and December 4-6. Buy your tickets here!
