West Michigan Wednesday: “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at Central Park Players

One of the things I love most about my home is the location! I love living in West Michigan and enjoy many activities around town. I wanted to create a series that explores some of the great things that this area has to offer.

West Michigan Wednesday

Join Grand Haven’s Central Park Players for this weekend’s production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”

Here is the blurb from the website:

In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids–probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on!

This delightful comedy is adapted from the best-selling young adult book, and has become a holiday staple for groups across the United States! Features plenty of great roles for children and adults, a few favorite Christmas carols, and a lot of laughs!

“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” opens this weekend at Central Park Players in Grand Haven. I am so thrilled to be playing Frances in  this production alongside a very talented and hilarious cast.

As always, here is the blurb:

“During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.”

The show runs October 9-11 and 17-18 at Lakeshore Middle School in Grand Haven. For more information and to purchase tickets, call: 616-850-6566

“The action of the play begins just after a 17-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. Various testimonies are re-examined, tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry men.”

The evening will open with “Santa’s Rockin’ Christmas Eve” followed by a short intermission and closing with “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” As always, here is the blurb from the website:

“Five Performances: December 4-6 @7:30 PM, December 6-7 @2:00 PM – At the Lakeshore Middle School Auditorium

Don’t touch that dial! You won’t want to miss this incredible 40-minute TV variety show, Santa’s Rockin’ Christmas Eve. Everyone will be performing a special number, including The Mistletones, Suzy and the Snowflakes, the Reindeer, the Elves, Mrs. Claus, and yes, of course, Santa himself! It’s an evening of entertainment and fun, complete with staging notes and two commercials.

The classic animated television special, A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the other Peanuts grapple with the real meaning of Christmas.”

Also, I am playing Lucy in the production of “A Charlie Brown Christmas!” It has been so much fun bringing these classic characters to life! Rachel from Rachel Kaye Photography stopped by a rehearsal last week and snapped some fun shots. She was so kind and let me share a few sneak peaks with you today!!

This weekend “The Last Five Years” opens at Central Park Players in Grand Haven. As always, here is the blurb:

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.
The Last Five Years at Central Park Players

There is an upcoming move staring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan based on this musical but you don’t have to wait until it opens to hear this beautiful music and touching story! You know how they say that the book is always better than the movie? Well, no offense to Anna and Jeremy, but I would always rather see a live production! This show is going to be done black box style with very limited seating. Audience members will be close enough (at times only a foot or two away) to see every nuance and gesture in this touching piece of theatre. As an actor and audience member, I LOVE black box theatre. You really feel like a fly on the wall or like you’re out to lunch with a friend sharing a juicy story. I think this intimate setting is perfect for the nature of this show.  The songs are beautiful, the team working on this show are some of my favorite people, and I feel that anyone who has loved and lost can relate to this moving story. Needless to say, I absolutely adore this two-person power house of a musical and I cannot wait to see it in person.
“The Last Five Years” will run from October 3-5 and 10-11, 2014.
