As we cruise through December, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want for 2017. I have taken steps to purge toxicity from my life and start focusing on the things that make me happy, including this blog! I am always trying to streamline and improve organization. As a creative person, I get distracted easily and having an easy to use (and pretty) system in place can help keep me on track.
A few years ago, I discovered Erin Condren life planners. I love how customizable they are and I’ve purchased a few over the years. This summer I was sucked into the world of planner stickers and it has turned my organizational tool into a beautiful scrapbook! If you are in the market for a new planner, I highly recommend the one from Erin Condren. There are a ton of sales going on right now and it would even be a great Christmas gift! Here is the 18 month planner I am currently using along with some of the accessories I picked up.

One of my favorite things about my home is the pedestal bistro table that I picked up from West Elm a few years back. I have had it paired with the tan parsons chairs from my first house but never really liked the look. I wanted to find a cool gray chair with interesting details to match my couch and other chairs. But when I saw this pair of dark purple chairs at Target, I hoped they would be the perfect pop of color in my fairly neutral room.
As as you can tell from the lilacs in this picture, I’ve had these for a few months now. It’s hard to see the color, but they are a deep eggplant color. It has been fun to play with the purple tones in my paint color and they have worked with my holiday decorations surprisingly well. Have you made any bold color choices that have paid off?
In an effort to get back on the blogging train as we approach the new year, I wanted to take a few posts to catch you up on some of the changes I’ve been making around my little abode, Morning Joy.
Today I wanted to give a shout out to one of my favorite art pieces. I picked up this “Hello” sign from Target a while back and it greats me every time I walk into the room. I love the distressed wood tones! In this vignette I paired it with a rifle paper print (I cut mine out of last year’s calendar which is no longer sold. Next year’s desk calendar has the same artwork though!), a sweet succulent, and an owl stacked on some cute books (they’re no longer sold but these are similar) from Anthropologie.
Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for many. For me, it brings back some tough memories and even more bittersweet memories of the people I’ve lost. This year, I have decided to use the holiday season as a time to purge all toxicity from my life and focus on the things that mater most.
Working in retail and living away from family, I don’t get to celebrate Thanksgiving in a traditional sense. But I have come up with my own traditions and I still take time to be Thankful for the blessings in my life.
I am so fortunate to have people that lift me up rather than hold me back. I am blessed to have such an amazing support system of loving people. I am thankful for family that is willing to drive 2.5 hours to eat breakfast with me before driving back for their own Thanksgiving meals. I live and own a home in a community that supports the arts. I have my health, comfort, and my faith. I. Am. So. Thankful.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving and the start to a joyful, happy, and healthy Holiday season!
Here are a few photos of my fall decor this year!
My favorite fall candle! Leaves from Bath and Body Works. I love it paired with my burlap table runner and a few sparkly pumpkins I picked up from Hobby Lobby a few years back.
I also brought back my favorite fall centerpiece as seen as seen last year.
I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things for Thanksgiving breakfast and I couldn’t resist these pretty flowers. I love the warm colors and textures in this arrangement.
